Personal account from Occupy Dallas camp: “Now, I get it” from Pegasus News

DALLAS — An astute and intuitive friend, Justin Nygren, teased me with the prospect of personally visiting the Occupy Dallas encampment in order to perhaps get to some truth about it all. Presumably, this was to either verify or cut through some of the clearly dubious, de-personalized, media-hyped rhetoric these folks were being branded with. Putting real faces with real names on a situation like this could be enlightening. So I spent a few days talking with people at Occupy Dallas.
However, I still remained conflicted. My heart identified with the real life stories unfolding and the tangled frustrations people have when they feel they been marginalized to the point of having almost no control regarding some powerfully negative factors which are shaping their lives. However, my head insists on taking the more logical approach to it all, attempting to evaluate the reasoning, purpose, and net effect of this well-intentioned, yet outwardly confusing group.

Citing sanitation issues, city officials ask Occupy Dallas protesters to clean up or move on

DALLAS — City Manager Mary Suhm said in a letter Tuesday that the protesters in the Occupy Dallas camp have had "numerous, ongoing, and material breaches of [the] settlement agreement" between the city and the occupiers. In response to the letter, the protesters have agreed to abide by the city's rules.

According to Suhm, protesters have until 5 p.m. Saturday, November 12 to fix four issues. The city alleges the protesters have: used City Hall facilities without permission, failed to remove trash from their camp, damaged temporary fencing protecting trees on the property, and put up structures and signs on the property.
"If participants in Occupy Dallas continue to breach the agreement or disobey the law, either between now and Saturday at 5 p.m or thereafter, the city reserves the right to terminate the settlement agreement and enforce all laws on the property, including removing any tents and other obstructions on property that are not promptly removed by Occupy Dallas after receipt of a request to do so by the city," Suhm wrote.
